Have you ever had an entire steakhouse dinner…on a single chip? Yeah. That’s exactly what this is.
This Steakhouse Dinner Dip recipe from Nick Keith (@Heatstrokesbbq) is rich, savory, loaded with beefy flavor, and dangerously scoopable. Steak, caramelized onions, creamy horseradish, and crunchy fried onions—turned into a party-ready dip.

It’s the kind of appetizer people won’t stop talking about at game day, backyard hangs, or your next party. Best part? It costs way less than a steakhouse dinner and feeds a crowd.
Ingredients
For the Dip
- 10 oz tri-tip, grilled or smoked, then cooled
- 2 cups sour cream
- ½ cup mayo
- 2 large yellow onions
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp creamy horseradish sauce
- 2 tbsp beef rub
- 2 tbsp all-purpose rub
- 1 tbsp garlic (Jarlic)
- ½ bag crispy fried onions
For Serving
- 1 bag of potato chips
How to Make Steakhouse Dip
Step 1: Cook the Tri-Tip
Coat the tri-tip in your Prep Tub with 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce and beef rub. Cook using the reverse sear method, then let it cool completely.
Nick's Tip: Reverse sear keeps the steak juicy and tender—perfect for chopping into a dip.
Step 2: Caramelize the Onions
Chop the onions and cook them down in a pan with:
- Butter
- Garlic
- All-purpose rub
Cook until soft, translucent, and tasting like a million bucks. Let cool before mixing.
Step 3: Build the Base
In a Secondz® container (so you can snap the lid on and move straight to the fridge), mix together:
- Sour cream
- Mayo
- Remaining Worcestershire
- Horseradish
- Cooked onions
- Seasonings
Leave the crispy fried onions out for now—they’re going on top.
Step 4: Add the Steak
Chop the cooled tri-tip into bite-size pieces and fold it into the dip.
Season with more beef rub to taste.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to let everything come together.
Step 5: Finish & Serve
Right before serving, top the dip with crispy fried onions and grab the potato chips to scoop directly from your Secondz® container. Lock the lid when you're done and store in the fridge for leftovers (if it lasts that long).
